About the area

The Municipality of Holroyd lies about 20km west of Sydney about halfway between the city and the Blue Mountains. It covers and area of 39.2 square kilometres. Its horizons are flat, apart from the undulating area around Guildford and the looming promontory of Prospect Hill, and a large proportion is covered by detached housing set along grid-patterned streets, most dating from the early twentieth century to the present.

There are modern shopping centres and facilities like Westmead Hospital which draw people from all over the Western suburbs. Most of Holroyd now reflects modern day life. Many of the old timber buildings have been replaced by architect designed structures of modern texture bricks.

The growth of new & established industries consolidated the existing population and attracted many more to the area. Much of the material of the red-roofed suburban landscape that typified Sydney of the 1910's & 1920's came from Holroyd and places like it. Brick pipe & tile works proliferated on the clay soils at Merrylands, Guildford & Wentworthville. Other major industries to be established in the Holroyd area included Mcleod's Flower Mill at Merrylands, Bonds cotton spinning mills (which is still in operation today) at Pendle Hill, R J Nevis Saw Mills, The Farmers Fertiliser Company and many more industries which has set the standard for the strong industrial base which can today be found in areas like Girraween, Toongabbie and Woodpark.

Holroyd is popular due to it's very central location to the remainder of Sydney, only 20 minutes from the Homebush Olympic site. Many large residential lots ranging in size from the average 550m2 block to much larger blocks, many of over 700m2 and some even larger still become available for sale. Many areas that enjoyed extra large blocks have been developed into stylish townhouse and villa developments which allow people that have lived in the area all their lives to retire to a smaller more modern property within the same area.

Many bustling communities can be found in the Holroyd area as well as excellent transport services which include train and bus services. Community services such as schools, sporting & recreation facilities, Leagues, RSL and Bowling clubs, Cinemas area also readily available within the area.
